The crucial role of women in promoting peace within society cannot be overstated. Regrettably, women are often marginalised and excluded from participating in peace negotiations. In response to this issue, the Women Interstate Peace Initiative has emerged, aiming to shift this narrative and elevate the influence of women in the peacebuilding process across the Benue-Taraba region and beyond. This initiative’s central objective is to enhance the capacity of women to engage in inter-religious and intercultural dialogue, foster social cohesion, and solidify their role in mitigating conflicts within their communities.
Notably, in August 2020, the initiative organised a training programme at the Global Village Suites in Abuja, where 50 women from Benue and Taraba states underwent comprehensive training in peacebuilding and conflict management. This training not only bolstered their skills in mediating and resolving conflicts but also empowered them to take on active roles in peacebuilding endeavours within their communities. Furthermore, the participants collectively formulated actionable points and released a communiqué outlining their dedicated commitments.
By rallying behind the Women Interstate Peace Initiative, you are actively contributing to advancing peace and stability within the region. Your support will serve to foster a more inclusive and effective approach to conflict resolution, ultimately bringing about positive change and prosperity for communities and society at large.
